Antique chromo lithograph of the Tormentil and Cinquefoil, 1879
This bright coloured and detailed chromolithographic print of the Tormentil (Potentilla Tormentilla) and Cinquefoil (P. Reptans) originates from the first edition (1879) of a series of botanical books called 'Familiar Wild Flowers’ by E. Hulme.
This exquisite 145-year-old illustration is in excellent condition and comes with a pre-cut high quality matboard with a pale green coloured top layer. The matboard is acid-free, protecting the print.
Frederick Edward Hulme (1841-1909), a naturalist and artist, was born in England. In 1870 he was appointed art and drawing master at Marlborough College, which was around the time he published Familiar Wild Flowers, his best known work.
