Antique chromo lithograph of butterflies and moths, 1895
Beautifully coloured chromo-lithographic plate from 1895 with 23 detailed illustrations of butterflies, moths, larva and pupa, including the Death head's hawk moth (Acherontia atropos L.), the Peacock butterfly (Vanessa io L.) and the Old world swallowtail (Papilio machaon). This plate originates from 'Wagner's Natuurlijke Historie', a book about natural history which was originally written by the German biologist Herman Wagner and translated into Dutch by D. Horn.
This exquisite 129-year-old plate is in excellent condition and comes with a pre-cut high quality matboard with a white linen top layer. The matboard is acid-free, protecting the print.
